Stress and Professional Exams

February 7th, 2010 at 03:55 am

I take the Financial Part of the CPA exam on Friday and I'm stressed. Incredibly so, I have no idea if I'll pass. I wish I was more confident, but in the meantime I'm just trying to study as much as I can.

I took a simulated exam last night and only got a 61% on the multiple choice. Immediately I wanted to reschedule my test but two problems with that

1) My DH is leaving sometime this month (not sure when) and Friday is my only FOR SURE GUARANTEED date I know I'll be able to take it this month

2) If I push it back till April (can't take it in March cause the testing window is closed) then I'll be doubling up on tests which will probably be more stressful since we'll also be showing the house that month for prospective tenants.

DH calmly reassured me I have about a week left to study and to just give it my best. It sucks that I have about $225 riding on this exam but I'm going to try my best and see where I go from there.

I'm also taking Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday off from work so I can focus on the exam. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed that by some miracle I can pass or Becker's CPA Final Review course will magically help get me through this.

I hope.

I hope.

You'll make it. Just do as many questions as you can to practice.

Just keep studying and taking those practice tests.

If you get get your score up at home you will have a pretty good chance of getting a similar score when you take the test!!

Try not to get too stressed out about it. Study as much as you can and do the practice exams. And don't forget about the old standbys of 1) getting enough sleep the night before the exam and 2) eat a good breakfast. Just relax and do the test and you can deal with whatever happens. Good luck and let us know how it all goes!

Don't stress out. I just took my CMA exam on Friday (first attempt). I was pretty nervous too, but I decided that since my wasn't until 11:30 that I wouldn't try and cram. The night before I took a Advil PM to ensure a good night's sleep. The morning of the test I did some yoga, took a nice long shower, and then watched some funny videos on youtube. I wanted to go into the test as relaxed as possible.

FWIW, I used ExamMatrix to study. I haven't used Becker so I'm not sure how they do the review. ExamMatrix is computer based and runs you through retired questions from the exam. I was very happy with their program, in case you decide you want to try another study program.

    Good luck!
