Chip in the windshield

September 21st, 2009 at 04:28 pm

On the way to dropping off DH for another "mission"... we got a chip in the windshield from a rock.

No big deal, we used Safelite before to repair chips in the windshield. An unexpected expense of $96.95 wasn't going to hurt me and they'd come out to my home to do the repair. My deductible is at $500, so it'd make no sense to file an insurance claim. Or so I thought.

I didn't realize till today though that USAA will pay for my windshield to be repaired at no cost of my own.

So now I have the Safelite guy coming out to my house to fix my windshield & my insurance is going to pay for it at no out of pocket cost to me.

Good reminder for me what USAA covers! I think we had another insurance company years back that covered the same thing, so it pays to check.

Our insurance company also pays for these which is very nice considering what all we pay them!! Glad you checked it out! Everyone should.

however, this need not be the case. Under many circumstances, instead of replacing the whole windshield, you can use a windshield repair kit to fix small cracks and chips in the glass at a fraction of the cost.a typical car windshield is made up of a laminate of at least two layers of glass with a polymer resin sandwiched between them This gives the glass huge strength, and in the event of an accident
